Community Scrappage Scheme

The last loads of scrap iron collected from around the parish will be taken away this week. The scheme was a great success with over 50 tonnes of scrap iron either delivered or collected.

A very sincere thank you to all who contributed to the success of the scheme-to Joe Barry and the staff of Castlelyons Co-op for the use of their premises as a depot for the duration of the project and especially to all those who donated iron. From teaspoons to tractors it all counts to make the collection such a success. A very special word of thanks to Seamus Geary for organising the scheme and to all our collectors who gave of their time to collect the scrap.

Website Launch Night

The official launch night for this, our Parish Website, took place at the community centre lounge last night (10th Aug 2011) with a rousing thumbs up given to its unveiling. Chairman of the Community Council Seamus Geary spoke of the huge amount of work and research that went into the project and thanked the Newsletter & Website Committee for their effort in getting the site revamped and updated.

Our main sponsors of the website “East Cork Oil Ltd.” were represented by Con Ryan who was taken aback by the amount of information available to both residents and former parishoners and commented on the importance of keeping a link open to all parishoners and especially those who have gone abroad. Seamus thanked our other sponsors “McDonnell Bros Agricultural Suppliers” and urged people to support the businesses who were putting money into community ventures such as this. He then gave a mention to “Ballyvolane House” for their continued support to the locality and to “Ballinterry House” (the former home of Hurd Hatfield) who have only recently opened as a B+B in the area.We wish them well in their new venture.
