Last Sunday night saw Drama at its very best in Castlelyons when six one-act plays took to the stage and everyone was treated to a most enjoyable night. The Festival was co-ordinated this year by Festival Director Martha Riordan with all the Barrymore members giving assistance when needed.

The Groups taking part were as follows : Take 5 –  “Faded Footsteps”, Barrymore Players – “Last Tango in Little Grimley”, Blue Hat Productions – “Workers Wishes” and Haulbowline Theatre Group entertained us with “The One”, “Bench Encounter” and “Jailbirds”.

Adjudicator for the evening was Shevaun Hogan and the results were as follows.

Well done to Martha and her team for an excellent night of Drama . Guest of honour on the night was Cllr. Tim Lombard, Mayor of the County of Cork. The group would like to wish Noelle Clarke & Paul Finn the very best of luck with their production of “Faded Footsteps” in the Circuit.

There will be a candlelight carol service on Friday the 9th of December 2011 at Coolagown Church at 8pm where there will be a varied Christmas themed musical Concert.

Participants include children from Kilmagner National School, Castlelyons Gospel Choir, Bishopstown choir and contributions from local talent.

Tickets cost €10 for an adult and kids are free.

Best of luck to our Camogie Junior B Team who will play in the plate final this Saturday in Ballincollig. The girls will take on St Vincents and we wish them the very best of luck. Throw in is at 7pm, so please come along and give the girls your support.

Barrymore Players are putting the final details in place for this Sunday night (November 20th) One-Act-Play Festival, and it promises to be a highly entertaining night. With groups from Haulbowline, Blue Hat Theatre Group, Take 5 and Barrymores Players themselves taking part, there promises to be something to suit all tastes. In what is a huge vote of confidence in our Premier Intermediate hurling team our local GAA club has secured the services of top intercounty hurling coach Justin McCarthy. In an announcement at last nights meeting it was revealed that Justin would be in charge of the the team for the coming season and attempt to regain top flight status once again for our talented hurling team. Since being demoted a few years back the team have been rebuilding and under the charge of Maurice Geary and his co-mentors over the last few seasons the team has made steady progress and were only beaten by a point by eventual winners Courcey Rovers in this years championship. Now with a mixture of age,experience and some very talented younger players from U-21 and minor grades it is hoped that Justin will weave his magic and be the catalyst for a successful year ahead. Best of Luck to Castlelyons Nationl School who contest the Sciath Na Scoil Football Final in Paric Ui Rinn next Wed ( Nov 16th) night at 8pm against Frankfield.

This year is the first ever year that Castlelyons National School are playing in the 15 a side tournament so they have been competing against schools much larger than themselves throughout the qualifiers.

Great credit must go Principal Nelius De Roiste, Dave Hegarty and of course the Players in getting to the Final and we wish them the best of luck next Wednesday.

Best of Luck to our Junior B Footballers when they contest the East Cork Junior B Football Final next Sunday Nov 13th against Youghal. We are all rooting for ye lads.

At the November meeting of the Community Council the main topic of discussion was of course the monthly draw and how ticket sales are going. The first draw will be held on Sat.Nov.26th and we hope to meet every Wed. night until then to complete ticket sales. All members with full cards are asked to hand in the cards and money with corresponding names to Seamus Geary or James Parker. The response to date is very encouraging. Chairman Seamus Geary thanked all who have sold and bought tickets to date and expressed confidence that by the first draw all the cards would be full.

The formation of a youth club in the parish also came up for discussion.It was felt that the needs of the youth who were not interested in sport needed to be catered for. The youth clubs from neighbouring parishes are to be contacted with a view to getting information on what facilities and structures are needed to form a club but the most important(and most difficult) element,the meeting felt, was to get adults/parents involved to supervise and help out in the running of a club. Further information is to be available for the December meeting.

An outside request for a mobile chipper in the village did not receive favour, on several grounds. It was felt that people living in the village would be awoken with the noise levels and that it would also be a traffic and litter hazard. Several people spoke of problems that were encountered when a chipper was located in the village some years ago and felt these would again materialise if a chipper were to return.

Correspondence was received from Cork Co.Council reminding landowners to remove any possible blockages (fallen trees,debris etc.) from streams and rivers to allow for the flow of possible floodwater during the winter months. It was stated that the local Trout Anglers did this in alternate stretches of river each year and care is taken not to disturb fish spawning areas.

A meeting to evaluate ticket and card sales for the Superdraw will take place next Wed.night at 8.30pm at the community centre. Card sellers are asked to hand in any new names and full card details to the committee any time between 8.30 and 10pm.

The last Community Council meeting of 2011 will take place on Wednesday December 7th.

Castlelyons Juvenile GAA Club are holding their annual AGM on next Thursday November 10th in the Community Center @8pm.  The AGM is open to everyone and as always the Club would welcome anyone that would like to get involved ( at whatever level) to attend this meeting. Last year we had a great attendance and in particular it was encouraging to see so many new faces attend. Hopefully this year we will see many more new attendees so that everyone can have an input into the running of the Club.
